Teays Valley West Middle School 6th grade language arts teacher Erica Neal and South Bloomfield Elementary 5th grade teacher Jason Mitchell recently received a $500 grant from the Teays Valley Educational Foundation. It will be used to purchase books for their students to work collaboratively through visits to each school and using Google tools, such as Google Classroom and Google Hangout.
“The Teays Valley Education Foundation does so many great things for our district and this is another example,” Mitchell said. “This will be one of the first times students at Teays Valley will work with other students from another building. This grant will allow Mrs. Neal’s 6th grade students at West to interact with my 5th grade students at South Bloomfield as we read a class novel titled, Save Me a Seat. Students will interact with each other using applications such as Google Classroom and Google Hangout. This will create a large literature circle type atmosphere across two grades levels and buildings. Mrs. Neal and I greatly appreciate the grant from the foundation.”
