Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announces that his office has currently been investigating a fatal shooting that took place on July 28, 2019 at 3125 Blue Run Road Lucasville Ohio.
Captain John W. Murphy stated that detectives along with BCI&I and the coroner’s office have been actively investigating the death of 46 years old, Daren H. Woods that occurred on Sunday July 28, 2019. Murphy stated that the 911 center received a call of a self-inflicted gunshot when deputies and detectives responded they were unable to locate a firearm.
Captain John W. Murphy stated that BCI responded to theincident location to process the scene, and to collect evidence. Two female witnesses who were also at the camper during the time of the shooting had reported that two men in a loud black truck had pulled into the camper area, and that one male entered the trailer and shot the victim before fleeing the area.
Captain John W. Murphy stated that after further investigation, to include the evidence collected by BCI, the detectives were able to determine that the evidence did not match what they were being told. During the investigation one of the females gave another statement that a male and female pulled in driving in a loud black truck and that the female went in and shot the victim while the male stayed in the truck. Detectives were able to locate both suspects in Vinton County and establish that they were not in Lucasville on the night of the shooting. The male has a monitoring system placed on his ankle through Portsmouth Municipal Court which tracks his location at all times and it also verified that he was not in the area.
Captain John Murphy stated that detectives later got information that the victim had shot himself, and that the female who lived in the camper was a convicted felon who is not allowed to be around firearms. The two females got together and made up a story so that she would not get into trouble for having a firearm or being around one. Detectives and deputies responded to 3125 Blue Run Road Lucasville Ohio to the home of Kim Davis who is the mother of one of the witnesses, this home is located right next door to the camper where this incident took place. Detectives were able to locate the weapon used in the shooting inside of this home.
Captain John Murphy stated that after the detectives recovered the weapon used in the shooting inside of Kim Davis home, the witnesses were interviewed again and they admitted to making up a false report, giving false statements and removing the firearm used in this shooting. Both witnesses were given a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis test which indicated they were being truthful.
