US Senator Sherrod Brown made an appearance in Chillicothe to rally party volunteers

Chillicothe — U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D) made a special appearance to rally party volunteers, and answered a few news media questions, Thursday afternoon.

The media advisory previewed the tone for the event:

“Senator Sherrod Brown will kick off a canvass in Chillicothe. Sherrod will make brief remarks before local volunteers knock on doors and talk to voters…

While Sherrod worked across the aisle to successfully save the Chillicothe VA and ensure Ohio veterans continue receiving the treatment and care they deserve, Bernie Moreno recently dismissed efforts to save the VA…”

(The advisory includes a link to a pair of videos on X / Twitter where Bernie Moreno argues with a Brown supporter, Chillicothe Pastor Terry Williams, after Moreno’s rally on August 5th – but I fail to see any disparaging of efforts to save the Chillicothe VA as stated in Brown’s media.)

I didn’t try hard enough to squeeze in any questions, but the below video shows the ones asked by other members of the news media – showing the whole behind-the-scenes process that is reduced to only a few seconds on your Columbus TV news. Watch it to hear everyone in their own words!

Salient points in the almost six-minute session in the third-floor hallway of the Foulke Block in downtown Chillicothe:

Q: Why are you not in Chicago?

A: I was at a groundbreaking for a workers training center and a new school in Pike County. Pike and Ross counties get ignored. Pike helped win the Cold War, but people got sick because of the Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

Also, “there’s a lot more Ohioans in Ohio than in Chicago.”

The “Billionaire’s Club” dropped $12M against Brown in the Bernie Moreno campaign.

Q: Why is this most expensive race in country?

A: Yes, it is, and the most expensive in Ohio by a long shot.

Q: What is the value of being here instead of being at the DNC convention in Chicago?

A: I also like being at home, and have lots of work to do.

Q: Do you not want this election to be nationalized?

A: I want it to be between two candidates.

57% of Ohioans voted for a state constitutional amendment on reproductive rights, yet Moreno is pro-life.

Q: Would you campaign with Kamala Harris?

A: Yes, or Walz, but I do not expect them in Ohio since it’s not a swing state any more.

Moreno fought against saving, and supported closing, the Chillicothe VA.

Q: How close are you to Kamala Harris on issues?

A: You can judge that issue-by-issue. I’ve fought for the dignity of workers.

Before the Q&A, Brown rallied some of the 30 to 40 volunteers who will be canvassing Chillicothe. See the end of that rally in my other video below.
