US – In a three minute Zoom Telecommunications call Uber laid off around 15% of their entire workforce or 3,500 employees.
Not all employees that work for Uber are paid staff, some are independent contractors that work when rides are available, most of the people who were terminated are people in advertising and customer service.
In a call obtained by the Daily Mail, the head of Uber’s Phoenix Centre of Excellence, told 3,500 drivers it was their last day.
“Our rides business is down by more than half. There is not enough work for many frontline customer support employees. We are eliminating 3,500 frontline customer support roles, Chaveleau said, “In the unforeseeable future our business model will be smaller as less people are taking trips.”

Chaveleau’s voice cracks up during the message, and says, “no one wants to be on a call like this.”
