A tragic crash on November 22, 2024, on northbound US-23 near Emerson Road in Pickaway County resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man and left two others injured.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Shawn Sims, 52, of Chillicothe, lost control of his 2003 Ford Ranger around 5:30 a.m. while driving on a snow-covered bridge. The vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway.
At the same time, a 1997 Ford Ranger was broken down in the median, and two individuals, 24-year-old Hannah Olger of Ashville and 61-year-old David Henson of Piketon, were standing outside the vehicle. Sims’ truck struck both pedestrians and the disabled vehicle.
Henson was rushed to Berger Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Olger was transported to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries. Sims was also taken to Berger Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The crash caused significant disruption, with authorities shutting down the roadway for hours to conduct a detailed reconstruction of the accident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
