UPDATE: Fayette County OH- Double Shooting of Alleged Trespassers Being Investigated

Fayette County OH- Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in the 6000 block of Lewis Road in northeast Fayette County that occurred early Wednesday morning. The property owner initially reported that two subjects were trespassing on the property. While responding, deputies were alerted that the property owner had reportedly shot a subject. The initial call was received on at 2:11 a.m.

​According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, deputies responded to the incident location after the property owner reported subjects allegedly trespassing on his property. A subsequent phone call to the Sheriff’s Communications Center was received with the property owner requesting EMS be dispatched to the scene, reporting that he had accidently shot one of the subjects. Further investigation revealed that the second subject entered a vehicle and departed south on Lewis Road. The property owner reported that as the vehicle was leaving the property, the driver reportedly drove toward the property owner where additional shots were fired at the vehicle by the property owner.

​While enroute to the scene, Deputy Howard Wood located a vehicle matching the description as reported by the property owner and subsequently conducted a traffic stop in the 5000 block of Lewis Road. Upon further investigation, he discovered that the vehicle operator had sustained a gunshot wound also. Deputies applied first aid to both subjects who sustained gunshot wounds until EMS arrived. Both were transported to Fayette County Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Injuries sustained by both subjects appear to be non-life threatening.

​Sheriff’s detectives were contacted and responded to process the crime scene and conduct their investigation. The property owner had also reported recent incidents involving theft and breaking & entering at the Lewis Road location. This, and the previous incidents all remain under investigation. The names of all parties involved are being withheld as no charges have been filed at this time. Upon conclusion, the case will be presented to the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office for review and direction of criminal charges.
