Pickaway County – One man is in custody after a high-speed chase that started with just showing off.

Last night, authorities from Commercial Point Police initiated a pursuit of a Chevy Corvette for speeding within the town limits, marking the start of a dramatic sequence of events. As the Corvette fled at high speeds of over 100 mph, officers quickly alerted Pickaway County Sheriff’s Communications Division, prompting assistance from additional units and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The pursuit spanned several county and township roads in a northwesterly direction before law enforcement decided to terminate the chase for safety reasons. To apprehend the suspect safely, the Ohio State Highway Patrol deployed a helicopter to locate the Corvette, allowing ground units to position spike strips strategically ahead of the vehicle.

Familiarity with the Corvette’s owner, a resident of Commercial Point, guided law enforcement to his residence. Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect’s mother, who established phone communication with her 21-year-old son. Through their combined efforts, they urged the suspect to halt his reckless actions.

Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit as the suspect refueled at SR-665 and I-71 before continuing into the Timber Lake subdivision and eventually back onto SR-665. Spike strips were deployed twice during the pursuit, with the second attempt successfully disabling the Corvette near Stahl Rd in Orient, after traveling a short distance with two flat tires.

Officers from Franklin County Sheriff, Pickaway County Sheriff, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Commercial Point Police converged on the scene, where the driver was apprehended and taken into custody by Commercial Point Police. Jett, Vu, 21 faces multiple charges of Failure to Comply (3), and speeding.

The driver’s brother, who was a passenger in the Corvette, was released to his mother and faces no charges related to the incident. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather details surrounding the pursuit and apprehension.

This incident highlights the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety and bringing a high-speed chase to a safe conclusion.
