Authorities are investigating an accidental shooting that occurred on February 14, 2025, at a state wildlife area near State Route 22, just north of Crownover Mill Road. Emergency responders, including Williamsport EMS, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) units from Deer Creek, Fayette County Game Warden, Pickaway County Game Warden, and Deputy Magana, were dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:36 p.m. after reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies met with ODNR Officer Kassy McDonald and Fayette County Game Warden John Coffman, who were already on the scene speaking with three Hispanic males. The victim, identified as Gabrielle Rivera, was being treated by EMS personnel at the time. Life Flight was called to the scene and airlifted the victim to Grant Hospital for treatment of an injury sustained to his foot in what authorities have determined to be an accidental gun discharge while rabbit hunting.

Pickaway County Game Warden Josh Elster also responded to the scene, and Deputy Magana assisted in speaking with the individuals involved in the incident. Game Warden John Coffman confirmed that the Ohio Division of Wildlife would be handling the investigation into the hunting accident, which occurred on state-owned property.

Deputies cleared the scene with no further incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
