UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit and Killed on 104 by Prison Employee

ROSS – Around 10:16 pm on Wednesday January 8, 2020 reports came in of a pedestrian struck in front of the Chillicothe Correctional facility located at 15802 state route 104.

When a officer arrived on scene he reported Willam Ambos, 61 was unresponsive, he then gave updates to EMTs that had not yet arrived on scene, and began CPR. The CPR was not successful and the man died on scene.

According to state officials Mr. William Ambos, 61, of Piketon, Ohio, was walking in the right lane of SR 104 South between the Chillicothe VA Medical Center and Ross Correctional Institution.  A 2017, GMC Sierra, operated by Mr. Robert C. Lurty, 52, of Chillicothe, Ohio, was going south on SR 104 and struck Mr. Ambos.  Lurty, was the driver of the prison owned vehicle owned by CCI. A union leader was on scene shortly after the incident and declined any comment on the employee.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Ambos recently walked out of the VA hospital where he was a patient there, and the VA was looking for him when the accident happened.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. 104 Southbound was closed during the investigation for hours. Union Township Fire and EMS, VA Fire Department, and the VA Police Department were on scene.
