HOCKING – A two vehicle crash involving a ODOT vehicle and a van occurred yesterday afternoon around 2:40 pm. The ODOT vehicle was in the work zone when it was struck by a passerby on US-33 sending two ODOT workers and the driver of the van to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident was located between Dorr Run and SR 595 on US 33

The wreck happened while two ODOT workers were in the back of the pick up truck attempting to collect cones from a work zone when they saw the van drifting towards them, and jumped out of the vehicle, according to OSHP.

When the van hit the ODOT vehicle, driver of the van became entrapped and took first responders to remove him. Clean up of the wreck shut down both directions of US-33 until around 5 pm.

“It doesn’t matter what causes these kinds of crashes to happen, it’s always a stark and sobering reminder that the dangers our people face every day are real. This is why we constantly ask drivers to move over, slow down, and pay attention in work zones,” said ODOT Press Secretary Matt Bruning.
