PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A rear-end collision involving two semi trucks on US-23 caused significant disruption and left one of the trucks disabled on the evening of July 25, 2024.

The crash occurred around 6:00 am at the intersection of US-23 and the Court Street Connector, directly in front of the Sheetz convenience store. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2019 International Penske truck was stopped at the traffic light when it was struck from behind by a 2019 Freightliner driven by 29-year-old Troy Smith of Mississippi.

The impact resulted in disabling damage to the Freightliner, which required towing from the scene. The Penske truck, however, was able to be moved under its own power. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported.

Troy Smith was cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance and charged accordingly. The incident led to a temporary closure of the roadway for cleanup and removal of the damaged semi trucks. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
