Franklin County, OH (January 28, 2025) — US-23 has now reopened following a serious semi-truck crash involving a tanker truck carrying hazardous chemicals. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of US-23 and London Groveport Road (665), caused a shutdown of the area for more than seven hours.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, a semi-truck collided with a tanker truck carrying Flocryl Acrylamide 50, which is identified by Placard #3426. One individual was transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Hamilton Township Fire Department and the Columbus Fire Department were quick to respond to the hazmat situation. Fortunately, there was no chemical leak, and the substance remains contained. However, the tanker needed to be offloaded before it can be safely moved.

Authorities from ODOT, Columbus Police Department, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted with road closures and traffic management during the cleanup.

While London Groveport Road reopened between Hibbs Road and Parsons Avenue, US-23 remained closed for several hours, impacting rush-hour traffic. The closures have now been lifted as of 8 p.m., and all routes are open. Drivers are urged to remain cautious and watch out for any remaining emergency personnel as they clear the scene.

For drivers, alternative routes may still be necessary in the area as traffic resumes normal flow.
