Portsmouth Harbor, NH – In a dramatic incident on Tuesday morning, a whale breached and landed on a fishing boat in Portsmouth Harbor, leaving those aboard shaken but miraculously unharmed.

Colin Yager, 16, and his brother Wyatt Yager, 19, from Eliot, Maine, were on their inaugural fishing expedition off the coast of Rye, New Hampshire, when the unexpected encounter occurred. According to eyewitnesses, one of the men aboard the boat jumped overboard as the massive whale breached, while the other was briefly trapped under the vessel due to the force of impact.

Despite the boat capsizing, both individuals managed to escape serious injury. Fortunately, the man who was briefly submerged under the boat was able to surface quickly and rejoin the group unscathed.

The astonishing incident was captured on video by the Yager brothers, who were on a nearby vessel. The footage depicts the immense whale breaching and making contact with the boat, causing a brief moment of chaos before everyone was safely rescued from the water.

Authorities have not identified the type of whale involved in the incident, but emphasize that such encounters are extremely rare and highlight the unpredictable nature of marine wildlife.

June-August: The summer months are the peak whale-watching season in Maine. During this time, whales are abundant in the coastal waters as they feed and breed. Humpback whales, finback whales, and minke whales are commonly sighted during this period, making it an excellent time for whale-watching tours.
