WAVERLY, Ohio (January 27, 2025) — The Village of Waverly has lifted the Do Not Use water order as of 7:30 AM today, but a boil alert remains in effect for all residents until further notice. This means that while water can be used again, all water for drinking or cooking should be boiled vigorously for at least one minute before consumption to ensure safety.
Earlier this week, a significant water leak prompted the Waverly Village Council to declare a State of Emergency, and the Do Not Use order was enforced to conserve water while repairs were underway. The Waverly Water & Sewer Department had been working around the clock to isolate and repair the issue, which caused the water system to experience little to no pressure.
As the situation progresses, the village urges residents to continue being cautious with water use. The boil alert will remain in effect until further notice, and authorities will continue monitoring water quality throughout the repair process.
To assist residents during this time, bottled water will be available at the Pike County YMCA (400 Pride Drive) from 2 PM to 7 PM today, or while supplies last. There is a limit of one gallon per person per day. For residents who are homebound or unable to pick up water, the Pike County General Health District offers delivery services. Call them at 740-947-7721 for assistance.
The village remains in a state of emergency, and critical facilities like hospitals, nursing homes, and dialysis centers are exempt from the Do Not Use order. Residents are also encouraged to stay updated by signing up for Waverly’s One Call Now system to receive the latest information on the water situation.
Local agencies, including the Waverly Fire Department and Rural King, continue to work together to provide bottled water and support to residents during the ongoing emergency. The village thanks the community for its patience and cooperation as crews work to resolve the issue.
For further updates, residents should stay tuned to local news and community notifications.
