VAN WERT, Ohio — A chase in western Ohio has ended in authorities shooting and killing a truck driver that intentionally drove the wrong way on a highway, into oncoming traffic.
A Spencerville Police officer attempted to pull over the truck driver on a prior criminal complaint, which is what started the pursuit.
In a statement released by Sheriff Matthew Treglia of Allen County Sheriff’s Office, negotiations were attempted via phone as well as stop sticks, shooting remaining tires and vehicle maneuvers, to no avail.
When the driver began making repeated threats to kill people and then intentionally drove the wrong direction on U.S. 30, the multiple agencies that had joined the pursuit decided he was an imminent threat and took more severe action.
The truck driver, a resident of Allen County was a white 46-year-old man whose name has not been released yet due to next of kin not being notified.
