Circleville – The family of Mr. David Raines, by and through his daughter Cassandra Raines, the Administrator of his Estate, filed a civil lawsuit against Defendant Jaison Mclean for shooting and killing a beloved local citizen, Mr. David Raines.

“The Raines family believes it is important that by their filing this civil lawsuit, the community is made more aware of road rage and how it is a criminal act, and how it has doubled since the COVID pandemic. It took the life of David Raines. Those who engage in road rage and then hurt or kill someone like Mr. David Raines must be held accountable. The Raines family hopes this lawsuit will help stop or deter road rage and any kind of violent behavior.
Mr. David Raines was 55 years old; he was a known member of the community who protected our nation when he served in the Air Force. He further served the community as a Lieutenant at the London Correctional Institution. He was a forklift operator at Shanker’s Warehouse at the time of his death. Mr. David Raines was the loving father of four (4) adult children and had ten (10) grandchildren. Mr. David Raines’ loss is a loss to the whole community.”
Jason Mclean, 41, of Columbus, has been indicted on charges of voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and involuntary manslaughter in connection with a shooting that occurred on August 13, 2024. McLean pleaded not guilty during his arraignment at the Pickaway County Court of Common Pleas on October 1, 2024. Since then he has been released on a half a million dollar bond.
The incident unfolded around 5:00 PM on Corwin Street, where emergency responders found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite receiving initial treatment at the scene, the victim was later pronounced dead at Berger Hospital. In the Circleville Police report Mclean told police that a road rage incident occurred before a verbal altercation between Raines and him. Mclean claims that Raines hit him in his arm before he shot him in the chest with his unholstered gun once. A jury trial has been scheduled for December.
